Many students in high school and college hear the word LinkedIn, and they literally go running in the other direction. "Not another thing to do." "How do you even use it?" "Why should I use it?" I am here to tell you that as a student, scratch that, as a professional, now is the time to start using this platform.
Here are three easy steps that will get you going in the right direction. First, sign up for an account. It's free, and you'll thank me later once you start connecting with professionals. Go to Linked.com to start. Second, as you start to fill out your pertinent information, make sure to not omit the "About" section. This is your chance to tell the world about who you are, what you do, and why you do it so well. Be creative, use action verbs, and most of all be honest. Finally, invest in a professional headshot. Maybe you know of a fellow student who is a photography major. Flip them a few bucks and both of you will benefit in the long run. They'll be building their portfolio, and you will have a nice, professional photo. There you have it. Three simple ways to get started on LinkedIn. Happy linking! Feel free to connect with me!
