If you're reading this most likely you are either a student or a professional who is working "virtual." It can be a lonely existence for many of us who are in this situation. Let's be honest, it seems like 95% of the world is virtual! March 2020 seems like a lifetime ago. Maybe some of us secretly look forward to resuming a "normal" work or school schedule. Pre-March 2020, who can forget the stressful commute, running from job to school to dorm? Or, the co-worker who comes to work sick all the time. My whole point of writing on this topic is that it's in some ways more difficult than ever communicate with one another.
So how do we stay aware, awake, woke, and engaged? Communication, that's how. Show empathy, respond to emails in a timely manner, and by all means tell your loved ones how much you care for them. Make time in your schedule to check on those who need it. (Here's a secret: we all do.) Taking time to realize how you communicate with others is important. Take that empathetic approach in your communication with others, and you'll find that you'll become an expert in "reading the room," whether it's in person, or via Zoom.
